Bryan, Chung reach North & South final
GOLFWEEK STAFF

David Chung waltzed in the finals at the North & South Amateur Championship Friday with a 6-and-5 victory over David Johnson.

Chung, a rising sophomore at Stanford, won six holes on the front nine at Pinehurst No. 2 in his semifinal match and closed the door with a par on No. 13. In his morning quarterfinal match, Chung rallied from a 2-down deficit after 10 holes to beat Patrick Reed, 1 up.

“In the afternoon, I was more relaxed,” Chung said. “I knew where the pins were. I had no bogeys. And my caddie kept me loose.”

Wes Bryan (pictured) will join Chung in the finals. The soon-to-be sophomore at South Carolina defeated Gamecocks teammate Patrick Rada, 4 and 2, in the semifinals. Bryan built a 2-up lead after two holes, and was 4 up after a par at No. 13. His eagle at the par-5 16th ended the match.

“It was really weird to play with Patrick, but we kept each other loose throughout the round,” Bryan said.

Bryan was 1 down after 13 holes in his quarterfinal match against Matt Parziale, but won Nos. 14-16 en route to a 2-and-1 victory.
